Analysis of key problems of patients with spinal cord injuries at the level of structure, function and activity and methods of their assessment

Abstract

Traumatic spinal cord injury is the most complex disabling factor that leads to serious impairments in patients' functions, activity, and participation. Depending on the level of neurological damage, significant complications and neurological disorders are observed, including: impaired muscle function (strength, endurance, and spasticity), vegetative disorders (respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, excretory, and reproductive systems), bedsores, depression, pain, bone loss and fractures. Studying the key problems of patients according to the ICF makes it possible to determine the rehabilitation needs of persons with spinal cord injuries and to form an appropriate toolkit for assessing the level of established impairment.
