The article studies evolutionary trends in the development of the second-person pronouns in English, particularly in Early Modern English. The Corpus of English Dialogues used as data source together with sociolinguistic and pragmatic factors identified features of the second-person pronouns usage in English. Theoretical sources dwelling on the problem of second-person pronouns variation in English were analyzed. The variation of second-person pronoun usage in different texts, such as drama, depositions and trials was examined. The scope of singular second-person pronoun usage in Modern English was outlined. The article is dedicated to the peculiarities of the socio-cultural component in the English language by means of the Ukrainian one. Regardless of the fact, that the issue of socio-cultural values was considered by many disciplines (such as: sociology, philosophy, culture studies, psychology etc.) many problems as for rendering socio-cultural aspects by means of the target language are still not solved. The research under consideration is dedicated to the means of translating realia being a socio-cultural constituent. Realia as language units express culture-specific peculiarities and do not represent any difficulties in translation if they can be rendered by means of transcription or transliteration. The article focuses on the peculiarities of generic stereotypes representation in modern English-speaking publicist discourse. It reveals the ways gender stereotyping and gender-prejudiced or even gender-inclusive lexical elements are being eliminated i. e. the process of gender demarking, in contemporary English. The actuality of the historical and synchronous reasons of the appearance, existence, saving and destroying of different variants of language are determined in the article. Three historical stages of developing dialects are determined: the dialect in the conditions of the primitive society, the dialect in the educational epoch of ancient countries, and so called territorial dialect during the formation period of development of the national unities. In this article the historic stages of slang’s formation were described. Grammatical peculiarities of English slang and the processes of their word-formation were characterized. The peculiarities of English slang as the variant of social dialect were determined. The conclusions give the opportunity to evaluate the peculiarities of the development of the literary form. Форми мови (мовлення) мають спільні та відмінні особливості. За змістом вони подібні, адже обидві передають думку, різняться ж засобами вираження і сприймання. Надання усній комунікації письмової форми приводить до потреби встановлення різниці між письмовими та усними варіантами мови, які сьогодні розвиваються завдяки новітнім технологіям. Так, телефон допускає вживання усної форми спілкування, радіо і телебачення – односторонню комунікацію в усній формі. Такі явища, як, наприклад, електронне повідомлення і постійний обмін повідомленнями сприяють появі нових, менш формальних методів письмового спілкування. Усні та писемні форми комунікації виробили свої характерні особливості, які протиставляються. У реальному житті риси, що притаманні усному мовленню, широко використовуються в писемному варіанті мови. The rendering of spoken communication in written form gave the rise to the distinction between written and spoken varieties of language, and in our own day various forms of communication have been developed through technology. Speech is temporary by its nature, but it can be made permanent through recording and transcription. The difficulty of transcribing illustrates the differences between spoken and written communication. The article is devoted to the analysis of morphological, phonological, lexical and syntactical differential features of spoken and written forms of communication in line with research dedicated to conversation analysis, which concentrates on the study of spoken discourse. The article analyzes strategic organization of asymmetrical communication between siblings, with inequality based on the relevant social status. The article presents an attempt to describe syntactic, semantic and pragmatic peculiarities of communication strategies used by siblings in the situation of authoritative dominance. The siblings’ discourse is characterized by relations of dominance/submission which in the adulthood are based on the social status, psychological characteristics, including the leadership qualities, and on the established intrafamily relations and typical family roles. Authoritarianism as a characteristic of the communication process, aimed at exercising psychological pressure with violation of politeness principles and communication maxims, in siblings’ interaction is enabled by a significant difference in the relative statuses between siblings which is achieved by combining several sources of dominance. The article analyses the innovative linguistic instantiations of the readers’ tastes which cannot have avoided undergoing some changes in highly developed English-speaking societies. Dynamic development of the English language allows satisfying its needs of representing novel previously lacunar phenomena. The analyzed neologisms identify new genres of literature, some of them incorporate titles of the well-known books which are intentionally used to represent the elements of contemporary living connected with modern reading habits. Books gradually move to the digital plane which requires the means of linguistic representation of both digital and standard paper editions. This process is characterized by polynomination which can be explained by the fact of the computer lexicon being young and relatively unstable. The article attempts to represent the peculiarities of the person’s appearance in the English Bible texts. The diachronic analysis of the sacral texts reveals cultural connotation of the language units with respect to linguocultural changes. The article deals with the general semantic analysis of the language differentiations representing human physical appearance in the English Bible texts of various periods. The substitutions of the lexical units are compared and explained through the linguocultural prism. These substitutions reflect the evolution of a person along with the historical development of human society. The author investigates linguistic factors requiring the changes in the later versions of the Bible among which the evolution of the meaning prevails. Концепція роботи базується на розумінні мови як об’єктивації ментальної активності людини. Основною метою дослідження є тлумачення концепту позитивності як узагальненої системи моральних цінностей та виявлення засобів його реалізації у персонажному діалозі. Безпосередні завдання роботи передбачали дефінування концепту позитивності, встановлення базових психо-лінгвістичних особливостей, що забезпечують позитивне сприйняття протагоніста читачем, та з’ясування найбільш типових синтаксичних конструкцій його мовлення. Зроблено висновок про можливість знакового кодування авторського концепту позитивності на рівні синтаксису мовлення протагоніста. Авторські моральні ідеї віддзеркалюються в особистісних рисах протагоніста та внаслідок цього відбиваються у його мовленні. The article looks at the problem of conceptualisation of the author’s moral values in the main character’s personage speech. The conception of the given work is based upon understanding the language as objectivisation of mental activity of Man. The main objective of the research lies in defining the concept of positivity as a generalised system of moral values and singling out means of its realisation in the character’s dialogue. The immediate tasks of the work consist in giving a definition of the concept of positivity, stating the basic psycho-linguistic characteristics to provide the reader’s positive perception of the protagonist and finding the most typical syntactic constructions of the latter’s speech. A conclusion is made about a possibility of the sign-coding of the author’s positivity concept on the level of syntax of his protagonist’s speech. The author’s moral ideas are reflected in personal peculiarities of his protagonist and, consequently, in the main character’s speech. 2013-01-01T00:00:00Z
