The purpose of the article was to determine the level of development of medical tourism in the Rivne region and its potential posibilities. The review of official statistics of Ukrainian medical services for domestic and foreign tourists was made, regional peculiarities of natural and recreational resources of Rivne region are considered. According to The Travel & Tourism Ccompetitiveness Index 2017, Ukraine received the highest rating in the group of indicators «health and hygiene» – 8th place, which allows to consider tourist trips to Ukraine for the purpose of treatment and rehabilitation of the most promising. According to official statistics, only 3,5 % of all tourists serviced by travel agents and tour operators traveled to Ukraine for treatment, and tourists were not interested in medical services of the Rivne region. The most characteristic resources of the Volyn region are floristic, water, balneological and peloid resources, which have a significant potential for the development of medical tourism. The present article deals with the study of the tourism features development in Lithuania. The text gives a valuable information on features and trends of tourism development in Lithuania based on tourist-regional research. Special attention is given to the place and role of tourism in the Lithuanian economy. The article mentions dynamics and geographic structure of tourist flows. Named the main supplier countries of foreign tourists to Lithuania. It is specially noted that the inflow of tourists from Russia has diminished in recent years, whereas the tourism market in Lithuania has been replaced by tourists from the countries of the European Union. In addition to foreign tourism, the role of domestic one in Lithuania shows a tendency to increase. The text gives a valuable information on the main types of tourism in Lithuania and identifies the most important factors contributing on their development. Також зроблено спробу виявити чинники, від яких вона залежить. Так, установлено слабкий зв’язок із коефіцієнтом кореляції r = 0,5 між доходами від іноземного туризму на одне прибуття та питомими споживчими витратами місцевого населення. Натомість заможність туристів, яку засвідчують туристичні видатки на одне вибуття в країнах походження, не має значного впливу на їхні витрати в дестинації. Крім того, помічено залежність прибутковості іноземного туризму від географічних чинників. Із-поміж них виділяють наявність кордону суходолом і сусідство, а також відстань до дестинації, яку запропоновано визначати як середньозважену на відсоток прибуттів відстань між цією дестинацією та країнами походження туристів. Зрештою, проведений багатофакторний аналіз впливу зазначених чинників на прибутковість іноземного туризму для 31-ї країни вибірки. Результати множинного регресійного аналізу показали тісну залежність прибутковості іноземного туризму від середньозваженої відстані до п’яти топ-країн походження туристів і питомих споживчих витрат місцевого населення в країні призначення, адже коефіцієнт сукупної кореляції становив R = 0,80. Отже, можна стверджувати, що прибутковість іноземного туризму залежить, насамперед, від рівня добробуту країни призначення, що виражений у питомих споживчих витратах місцевого населення, а також від відстані, яку долають туристи дорогою до дестинації, адже у віддалених країнах вони зупиняються надовше та витрачають там більше грошей. Based on the statistics and standards of the World Bank and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the profitability of inbound tourism has been investigated, as the ratio of receipts from international tourists to the number of their arrivals, in general for the world for 1995–2014 and for 110 countries of the world as of 2008 – the last year of research before the financial crisis. An attempt to identify the factors on which it depends has been made also. In particular, a weak correlation with a coefficient r = 0,5 between the receipts from inbound tourism per one arrival and the consumption expenditures per capita of the local population has been established. At the same time, the prosperity of tourists, which is shown by tourist expenditures per departure in the countries of origin, does not have a significant impact on their spending in the destination. Besides, dependence of profitableness of inbound tourism on geographical factors is noticed. Among them are the presence of the border by land and neighborhood, as well as the distance to the destination, which is proposed to be defined as the distance between this destination and the countries of origin of tourists, average weighted by the percentage of arrivals. Finally, a multi-factor analysis of the effect of these factors on the profitability of inbound tourism for the 31 countries was carried out. The results of multiple regression analysis showed a close dependence of the profitability of inbound tourism on the average weighted distance to the 5-top countries of origin of tourists and the consumption expenditures per capita of the population in the country of destination, the coefficient of cumulative correlation was R = 0.80.
