The article deals with the basic content, pragmatic and stylistic features of publisistic narrative. The main attention is paid to the notion of narrative strategy as a defining principle of structuring the text of a newspaper article. The narrative is defined as a text (in a broad sense) or a number of texts which describe socially important events in the sequence of their deployment and which are constructed in accordance with certain language and content models. The elements of newspaper narrative include: 1) eventfulness, 2) events presentation sequence or chain of scenes, 3) temporality, 4) the experience of perception. One more factor which determines the content of the narrative is its referentiality to objects that exist only in the real world. The article analyzes surnames with multifunctional suffixes -kо, -ай, -ей, -ій, which are characterized by quite low productivity. The emphasis is laid on the homonymous and appellative lexicon reflected in the stems of these names and on the peculiarities of their derivation. The author considers surnames, derived from the old Slavic or Christian names (e.g Gun'ko, Ievtushko, Lavrii, Kubai, Romai) mainly as names of double word-building motivation. It has been revealed that the surnames motivated by appellatives with an initial meaning of diminutiveness (Kolin’ko, Cherevko), attributiveness (Bagrii, Kuchmei, Labai), subjective evaluation (Halai, Ostrii, Kyrdei) or those indicating to profession (Shablii, Skrypai) have been created in lexico-semantic way. The article considers semantic structure of the authors’ adjective-neologisms/occasionalisms in the poetic texts of the Ukrainian poetry in 20-21st century. The emphasis is laid on the floral lexemes of these neologisms: names of flowers (asters, poppies, mint, tarragon, violet and others), dendronyms (lilac, cherry, cranberry, poplar, birch, etc.), phytocenoses (forest, steppe). In the focus of attention are the floral symbols, their sacramental nature consecrated by the folk tradition and typical for the Ukrainian ethnospace. The author argues that the adjectival neologisms, the semantic structure of which involves phyto-symbols in the poetic language, are often created to convey such key concepts of the Ukrainian culture as Ukraine, freedom, beauty, love, sadness, joy. The article focuses on rigorous comparative analysis of the original and translated by Lesia Ukrainka into Russian stories by I.Franko (the case study of 6 stories by Ivan Franko in their Russian translation). The analysis is aimed at clarification of the role and functions of translation comments as possible ways to compensate the semantic losses, inevitable in any translation, including such closely related languages as Ukrainian and Russian. The emphasis is laid on the varieties of translatem that need such commenting and on the detailed analysis of the translator's notes as a means to compensate the semantic loss of source language meaning. The efficiency of using translation commentaries outside a target text has been proved. The author claims that the majority of comments in translation can be classified into linguistic-cultural, linguistic proper and historical (background) types. They give additional information which can not be integrated into the translated text. Using translation strategy of commentaries gives the translator an opportunity to render the text into a target language practically without any significant semantic losses. Linguistic cross- cultural comments are typical for the translation of no-equivalent units of the original, among which the most numerous in terms of national semantics are historical and everyday realities, proper names, etiquette formulas that have the status of regional realities with an obligatory cultural component. Proper linguistic comments are applied when translating foreign words, jargons and slang words. Background (historical) commentary refers to certain facts of the past or contemporary socio-political or religious realities. The article describes the lingvo-stylistic characteristic features of Ivan Vyshenskyi's works, laying emphasis on such a feature of his linguistic creativity as appellative nomination of persons. The subject matter of the research is the literary heritage of the writer-polemicist, an outstanding religious figure, a significant page in the history of the Ukrainian literary language. The study presents the analysis of the motivational aspect of word building peculiarities of the lexical system in the works by Ivan Vyshenskyi. The study gives the grounds to conclude that the combination of traditional bookish and folk elements has determined the specificity of the onomastic system in the refined literary heritage of Ivan Vyshenskyi. The article offers new approaches to the lexicographical word processing. The object of the study is the village Stryhantsi (Tysmenets district, IvanoFrankivsk region) dialectal peculiarities. This dialect is spoken with some specifics by the residents in the south-west of Naddnistrianshchyna. The bulk of the dictionary word stock, represented by appellative lexicon, is supplemented with a number of onyms (surnames, street nicknames, microtoponyms). Colloquial expressions are included into the dictionary alongside with the idiomatic ones. The article presents the fifth part of the selected lexicon – words that begin with the letter K (КРОВ – КЬИЯХ). Each dictionary entry lists all the lexeme meanings known to the authors, particularly those used in the meaning which is different from the literary variant. This article analyzes the variants of proper names revealed in Lesia Ukrainka’s letters to her family and friends. The emphasis is laid on word-building peculiarities of the names’ variants that have emerged as a result of either suffixation of full and reduced stems of the official names or by reducing and reducing-suffixal way including their diverse combinations. The author also points to the cases of russificated names variants like Grysha, Sasha, Shura occurring in the letters of Lesia Ukrainka. According to the findings of this study, female proper names versions quantitatively dominate over the male names, since Lesia Ukrainka corresponded mostly with women. The study revealed 18 affixes (-атк-о, -ик, -к-о, -унь-о, -унк-у, -утк-о, -о and others), by which the male names are formed and 26 variants of female names (-кa, -кo, -очка, -очко, -унька, -ися, -ня, -уся and others). Some of the suffixes are involved in various types of word formation, others – just only in one. Although these proper names for the most part are of the same derivation as the Volyn-Polissian, they still manifest their specificity. The colloquial version Mika of the name Dmytro or Ima from Eugeniia, used only in the family circle of the Kosachys, are classified as identifying suffixes. The article highlights the essence/nature and classification of the metaphors revealed in the book. The metaphors are systematized according to their morphological parameters (verbal, nominal, adjectival). The article reports on the results of the analysis of morphological characteristics of metaphors and describes the features of their functioning. The emphasis is laid on those morphological parameters which allow the author to achieve the maximum aesthetic effect. The study seeks to find out the expressive means by which the metaphorical image is emphasized and how this affects the overall perception of the verse. The study highlights the (extra) intralinguistic factors that influenced the development of terminology in that period. The analysis of special lexicon used to describe mathematical concepts in scientific and popular scientific publications has provided opportunities to differentiate lexical-thematic groups of mathematical terms. Attention is drawn to the linguistic features of the terminology under the study. It has been revealed that the mathematical terms in the M. Kravchuk’s publications reflect the complex system of concepts. Working in the field of the theoretical mathematics, the scientist used the terms from the theories, laws, formulas, theorems, hypotheses, phenomena in this field.
